Hammock Review:

Playa Bibijagua,

Dominican Republic

The contemporary meaning of Bibijagua may indeed be interpreted as: “Shop; Eat: Drink: Have Fun!” (a long-winded way of saying “gluttony”).

But the old Taino meaning of Bibijagua is actually “small creature that does great harm,” referring to giant ants in Cuba that love Cuban cigars.

They have developed big heads to properly smoke them.

Well, the latter part of that last sentence has not fully been substantiated yet. But they love ruining tobacco crops in Cuba that produce our beloved Cuban cigars.

But fortunately, there are no bibijagua on Playa Bibijagua, for they only live in Cuba.

Yes, a beautiful beach indeed!

But had the Bibijagua of years past fled from the beach with all hammocks to Cuba to smoke Cuban cigars there?

Where were the hammocks?

Here are the hammocks.

And so that’s how an ‘ole, crafty, veteran Hammock Reviewer beats the old Bibijagua bug and and partakes in modern gluttonous meaning of Bibijagua: shop, eat*, drink, have fun!

*We regret the eating is not pictured here—neither my eating nor the Bibijagua bug trying to eat the origins of my cigar back in Cuba. #fellowship
