Happy New Year! With the onset of each new year, we look to make some improvements, positive changes in our lives.

There is no better song to usher in such inspiration and motivation than 2Pac’s classic “Changes.” Expertly sampling from Bruce Hornsby’s “The Way It Is,” 2Pac’s version reflects the melancholic optimism of the original. Many rappers, like 2Pac’s friend E-40, have effectively sampled Hornsby’s classic, but none with the mainstream success of 2Pac.

This 2Pac standard tragically came out two years after his death. Yet that is sadly appropriate as 2Pac has been dead longer than he was alive. But we still remember him here, on 2Pac Fridays, and will continue to do so “Until the End of Time,” because like 2Pac asserts at the end of “Changes”: “Some things will never change.”
