2Pac Friday

As this is the second 2Pac Friday of the year, it is only appropriate that we celebrate it with “When I Get Free II.” It comes off the album R U Still Down? (Remember Me), his second posthumous album and his second double album, so there are a lots of 2’s going on here, very appropriate for 2Pac Friday #2 of 2026.

But his first posthumous album, The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory (sometimes referred to as “Makaveli,” the name he released it under) came out just a couple months after he died. As such, he was creatively involved in that album like he was with previous albums released while he was still alive.

R U Still Down? is different. It was the first album that 2Pac was not around for the creation of, where he didn’t have creative input. And the majority of the songs were actually recorded in the earlier part of his career, 1994 or earlier.

So songs like “When I Get Free II” provide the distinct feeling that 2Pac is rising up from the grave to rap for us, which we are grateful for because we always need good music on Fridays!
